Steinway & Sons, Model B, 1905

Steinway & Sons Model B, 1905 Brushed Ebony, Serial #112268

This 1905 Steinway Model B spent decades in the studio of a renowned local piano teacher — the kind of musician who trained and taught some of the finest players in the area. It was the instrument students sat at during lessons, the one that filled the room during recitals, and the piano that carried the weight of daily practice for years. Now fully restored, it is ready for its next chapter in a home where it can be played and enjoyed for generations.

The restoration was complete. The case received our hand-rubbed, grain-filled brushed ebony satin finish, which shows the depth and character of the wood while remaining practical for everyday use. Inside, the piano received a full mechanical rebuild: new Steinway wippens, new key bushings and key-rest felt, a complete set of Renner Premium Blue Point hammers, shanks, and flanges, and new Renner damper felts. The soundboard was dried, recrowned, sealed, and shellacked. New Mapes gold series wire and bass strings were installed with nickel-plated tuning pins, the keyboard was replaced with genuine ebony sharps and German acrylic keytops, and all brass hardware was freshly plated. The pedal lyre and trapwork were fully rebuilt.

The result is a warm, clear Steinway voice with a responsive touch — the kind of instrument that rewards both serious playing and quiet evenings at the keyboard. It carries the history of the teacher who used it to shape other musicians, and it is ready to become part of a new family’s story.
